BHPVIEW – Terminology

There are a few terms used often when discussing BHPVIEW that need to be clarified. BHPVIEW deals with data that is displayed as layers in windows, with inter-layer and inter-window synchronization.

A window is bounded by a frame with a title: either XSection Window or Map Window. Windows contain one or more layers. A layer is the data inside a window. More than one layer can be displayed in the same window, but all layers in the same window must be the same data organization, either cross-section or map-view.

Synchronization is the way layers and windows communicate between each other, and involves broadcasting and listening. Under previous versions of BHPVIEW, the term synchronize was used in menus to mean listen. If you say that layer A is synchronized with layer B, it means that Layer A is listening and layer B is broadcasting.
